I went for the first time last night with 3 of my friends. We are all foodies and are very tough critics. We were all VERY impressed. A very quality restaurant. Best pasta I’ve had in the West Village. Very friendly and competant staff. I cant wait to go back.
Among the best octopus and brussel sprouts I’ve had.
There is something said for a place with insanely good food that also has a staff to match. So often you tolerate horrible service since the food is so good and it’s frustrating that those places think their food justifies the service. This is not one of the ladder. From arrival you are treated well and the attention to detail is apparent.
They can have a long wait time so we sat at the bar which I would recommend for parties of 2 or 3. The bartenders were fun and having a great time which also enhances a great meal.
Now for the food….the butternut squash ravioli is one of those things that just makes you warm inside. Definitely a winter dish and you’ll want plenty of bread on hand to soak up the sauce.
To cut the heavier dishes the Hamachi is fresh and full of lemon.
If you’re feeling adventurous the Octopus is phenomenal and accompanied by some potato, chillies, olive and pancetta which is just enough to balance the dish.
I had the Branzino for my main which was the perfect finale to wrap things up. Cleanly cut and had a crisp skin on top. I really love this fish and they do it really well.
Overall a great experience from the moment you walk in right until you have to pull yourself away from the friendly staff to actually leave and go home!
Ian, well said. I didnt know you could write so well…
Roberto- I have been here many times. I think there food is quite on the salty side. Reminds me of Spotted Pig with the amount of salt they use. But as you say- delicious. I recommend asking them to go light on the salt.
If I had to recommend one restaraunt for a couple or group in the west village for only a night, it would be here. The food is the tastiest and more creative than you will expect, especially the mushroom apt. Servings are hearty and prices reasonable. The staff and service are expert and add to the meal experience. Salty Shmalty.
Best restaurant in the ville. No matter the occasion whether it be a date, friends, or dinner with the rents L’artusi always delivers. Mushroom app is out of this world and the pastas will leave you making sounds out of your mouth that make you awkward to think about later. Don’t be ashamed L’artusi always gets you.
Easily one of the best date spots I have been to (it helped that the date went well). The butternut squash ravioli was outstanding. The mushroom appetizer will knock your socks off. Now I do not normally order chicken when I eat out but I gave in, much to my pleasant surprise, was the juiciest and most tasty chicken I have ever eaten. It was lightly seasoned in salt, pepper, lemon and thyme and sat in its own delicious juices. I also have to give props to the bartender for recognizing my being on a date, he was total bro and tossed a few drinks our way, on the house.
