Always heard good things about this place; great trendy scene, tall good-looking women, and of course, how solid the food is. The outdoor seating is perfect for people watching and hanging. Every now and then I’ll see a celebrity here, and I guess that goes hand in hand with waiting a while for a table.

The Rigatoni Pitti Pasta with turkey sausage, peas, cream, tomatoes & parmigiano was excellent. Highly recommended. I also got the chicken liver paste appetizer and it was ok. It’s a healthy serving of pate, which was a little too rich for my taste.

The perfect spot to sit outside, have great food, and people watch.

Came here with the Scheinerman Clan for a birthday dinner. Hands down, one of THE best meals I have ever eaten. The vibe of the restaurant is minimalist and the lighting just right, not too bright or dim.  All the food here is farm to table fresh.  The menu changes seasonally and one can choose how they order their meal.  I chose to get 3 dishes for $78 over the 6 course tasting menu for $115.  Despite the price tags, this is not a place that your eating at everyday so it is well worth the splurge.

I started with a small, complimentary Amuse-Bouche (below) and the Chestnut soup with cured duck leg.  Like a wise man once said, if there is a leg of duck in your soup…. eat it.  The meat fell off the bone and the skin was the perfect kind of crispy. My mother ordered a starter that had shrimp, which she has an allergy to, the waiter quickly took it back without question.  That level of service is what will keep me coming back here for a long time.

After that, I had the seared tuna carpaccio for a starter, like the dish below. Had the perfect amount of seasoning to let the tuna do the talkin….

My main was the Long Island Duck with candied walnuts and maple glazed brussels sprouts.  I have found that generally if something is maple glazed or candied, it’s phenomenal.  This was no different, it was one of the most well-rounded (as far as different tastes) and delicious dishes I have ever had.  It is a MUST have at this spot.

For dessert, it’s all about the chocolate hazelnut mousse (as seen below), poached pear and dark chocolate caramel pecan tart. With all the sugar I was feeling a little wired but well worth the jitters for the medley of tastes going on at that table.

In case any of you want to order any of what I had, here are the dishes, taken from the menu:

Starter: Roasted Chestnut Soup with Cured Duck Leg w/Toasted Pumpkin Seeds & Pumpkin Seed Oil

Appetizer:  Yellowfin Tuna l’Occidental Flashed with Beurre Noisette & Crispy Shallots

Main: Roasted Long Island Duck Breast Beet Marmalade, Maple- Glazed Brussels Sprouts & Candied Chestnuts

Desserts: Poached Pear with Buckwheat Cake Huckleberry Ice Cream & Maple-Cider Reduction-Dark Chocolate Caramel Pecan Tart Earl Grey Ice Cream & Candied dates-Hazelnut-Milk Chocolate Mousse with Cocoa Streusel Salted Caramel Ice Cream & Chocolate Ganac

This is my go to spot for Lobster Rolls in NYC. It is probably as close to Maine you can get as far as lobster rolls, chowder and oysters.  This place (especially in the winter) is jam packed with people, so be prepared to wait 20 minutes or sometimes more for a table.  That aside, you come to Pearl for one thing and one thing only…. lobster.  The rolls are jammed packed with knuckle and claw meat nor do they hold back on the side of shoestring fries (the fries taste best with the vinegar that is on the table).  Being so busy however, the service was slow as it took 20 minutes to get our oysters. After that hiccup, the lobster rolls came out promptly and overflowing with deliciousness. In the end, an awesome taste of New England right in the West Village.

Above… our plate of Kumamoto and  Blue Points with a side of vinegar with horseradish and cocktail sauce

And of course… the reason I trek here in the 20 degree weather! Ridiculous!

I’ve heard people talk about this place, so we finally tried it out this Friday. We had a rsvp at 10 for 7, and this spot totally delivered. This 2 story trendy restaurant is very posh and visually appealing, loaded with tall, good-looking women. I remember the floors were very nice marble or something…for some reason it caught my eye.

Anyway, they sat us down late, which didn’t really matter because it’s so vibrant and a lot of eye candy to go around. This place is a scene-and every now and then that’s a treat.

We were all shocked how good the food was. My pork chop was delicious, the octopus appetizer rocked, the slabs of bacon were amazing, the tuna tar tar tacos were so fresh and nice and the meatballs were outta control. Next time I’ll get the steak too.

The menu is nice and simple, with the correct options. It gets annoying when there are too many options.

Great scene, great food, great place.

I’ve walked past this place a few times, and it always looks so happening and trendy. I tried walking in for a meal this summer, but they told me no chance without a res. Whatever. So I made a reservation last night and went with a friend to finally try it out.

The space has an industrial look with high ceilings and garage doors  as walls, that open up in the summer. Theres a nice buzz inside, and it’s filled with good-looking, and wealthy looking people. I love the fact that the kitchen is open, so you can see the chef’s running around making the food; similar to Dell’Anima.

We ordered the grilled pork loin with chestnuts and mashed rutabaga which was a solid, quality meal, though I don’t recall tasting the chestnuts. We also had the gnocchi with butternut squash, baby spinach, and fonduta, which was better than average, though I wish this dish did more for me. I was hoping for that. Is gnocchi supposed to be just little balls of dough? There’s gotta be more to it. The butternut squash added a nice fruity taste, and without it, the dish would’ve been bland.

To be honest, I had a tough time understanding what type of cuisine it was. There were a few dishes on the menu that had salsa in them, so I figured it had some sort of South American or Mexican twist. But then again, gnocchi is Italian.

As a great restaurant, you need to have a distinct identity. I think the menu plays it safe. I like when restaurants take more of a risk, and have more unique and wild creations.

I’ll go back, but in the summer when the garage doors are open, and I’ll try the chicken, which people tell me is their best dish.
