Came here with the Scheinerman Clan for a birthday dinner. Hands down, one of THE best meals I have ever eaten. The vibe of the restaurant is minimalist and the lighting just right, not too bright or dim.  All the food here is farm to table fresh.  The menu changes seasonally and one can choose how they order their meal.  I chose to get 3 dishes for $78 over the 6 course tasting menu for $115.  Despite the price tags, this is not a place that your eating at everyday so it is well worth the splurge.

I started with a small, complimentary Amuse-Bouche (below) and the Chestnut soup with cured duck leg.  Like a wise man once said, if there is a leg of duck in your soup…. eat it.  The meat fell off the bone and the skin was the perfect kind of crispy. My mother ordered a starter that had shrimp, which she has an allergy to, the waiter quickly took it back without question.  That level of service is what will keep me coming back here for a long time.

After that, I had the seared tuna carpaccio for a starter, like the dish below. Had the perfect amount of seasoning to let the tuna do the talkin….

My main was the Long Island Duck with candied walnuts and maple glazed brussels sprouts.  I have found that generally if something is maple glazed or candied, it’s phenomenal.  This was no different, it was one of the most well-rounded (as far as different tastes) and delicious dishes I have ever had.  It is a MUST have at this spot.

For dessert, it’s all about the chocolate hazelnut mousse (as seen below), poached pear and dark chocolate caramel pecan tart. With all the sugar I was feeling a little wired but well worth the jitters for the medley of tastes going on at that table.

In case any of you want to order any of what I had, here are the dishes, taken from the menu:

Starter: Roasted Chestnut Soup with Cured Duck Leg w/Toasted Pumpkin Seeds & Pumpkin Seed Oil

Appetizer:  Yellowfin Tuna l’Occidental Flashed with Beurre Noisette & Crispy Shallots

Main: Roasted Long Island Duck Breast Beet Marmalade, Maple- Glazed Brussels Sprouts & Candied Chestnuts

Desserts: Poached Pear with Buckwheat Cake Huckleberry Ice Cream & Maple-Cider Reduction-Dark Chocolate Caramel Pecan Tart Earl Grey Ice Cream & Candied dates-Hazelnut-Milk Chocolate Mousse with Cocoa Streusel Salted Caramel Ice Cream & Chocolate Ganac

This is my go to spot for Lobster Rolls in NYC. It is probably as close to Maine you can get as far as lobster rolls, chowder and oysters.  This place (especially in the winter) is jam packed with people, so be prepared to wait 20 minutes or sometimes more for a table.  That aside, you come to Pearl for one thing and one thing only…. lobster.  The rolls are jammed packed with knuckle and claw meat nor do they hold back on the side of shoestring fries (the fries taste best with the vinegar that is on the table).  Being so busy however, the service was slow as it took 20 minutes to get our oysters. After that hiccup, the lobster rolls came out promptly and overflowing with deliciousness. In the end, an awesome taste of New England right in the West Village.

Above… our plate of Kumamoto and  Blue Points with a side of vinegar with horseradish and cocktail sauce

And of course… the reason I trek here in the 20 degree weather! Ridiculous!

An awesome date spot or great for groups with lighting that is just dim enough to set the perfect tone, right in the heart of West 4th street. The food is locally sourced with amazing, easy and hearty dishes like shepherd’s pie, grilled cheese and pigs in a blanket. The drinks are well mixed. Be sure to grab a small table in the back of the bar, near the window, if available. Otherwise hold out for one of the larger tables if your with a bunch of friends.

I really like this place. Very cool energetic vibe. Very pro bartenders, nice stiff drinks, and all around fun. It’s also open very late; the perfect place to end a night.

I didn’t realize how good the food was till I tried it my second time. The bone marrow poppers were incredible! This is an all around awesome place, and should be very high on everyones list.

This is one of my favorite places in the West Village. I was a virgin to bone marrow before Fedora. Now its one of my favorites. They have some very unique food like their wagyu tongue salad, and their roasted pork chop with kale is amazing.

Great atmopshere, great food, great drinks, great bartenders. Great Great Great!!!
